 What Did You Say?

         Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

Psalms 107:2

         Tomorrow I will be preaching a funeral. Funerals are normally considered to be unpleasant occasions. It is not easy to say good bye to those we love.

Some funerals, however, are easier than others. I preached the funeral for a man who was dear to me, Brother Alvin Cafee. He was in his eighties. He was a faithful member of the church. He had been preaching for over fifty years. We had many discussions not only about his salvation but about the Lord in general. There was no doubt that he had traded this life of sorrow and pain for one that was filled with joy unspeakable and full of glory.

Certainly his family was still going to miss him. Sure there was some crying and I did some of it. But it was a lot easier knowing that Brother Alvin had gone on to a better place.

By contrast tomorrow’s funeral is for a man whose state with the Lord was at best uncertain. Many people had talked to him about his soul. Some claimed to have seen a change in his life. But he left no certain testimony.

This does not leave us without any hope because salvation is a work of the heart but it is much easier when someone has told us they have been saved, who can name a time and a place. This leaves us with a good hope.

That hope is even better when it is not just the words that speak to us but the life itself. Please do not make us guess where you are spending eternity. If the Lord has saved you, tell it! Tell it with your words and your life.

 The Preachers From Ghana-The church will be taking up a special offering Sunday morning February 23rd to help cover the cost for bringing Brother Samuel over from Ghana. If you would like to contribute but know you cannot be here that day please give your offering to Brother Hainey.
