Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
There is not a doubt in my mind that the day mentioned in Hebrews is approaching. How fast I cannot say but it would not surprise me to see his return any day now. After all, one would wonder if the things going in the days of Noah were much different than the things going on today. I suspect there was little if any difference and we know what happened then.
Whether that day comes soon or not soon, however, we have been told to watch and be ready at all times. We should live like this life is short and we are not planning on staying here forever. In fact, we should be living like we do not want to stay here any longer than we have to. We should be looking for a city with foundations whose builder and maker is God.
We must be aware of what is going on around us. We are in the world but we are not meant to be like the world. We are not meant to be swallowed up in sin. We are meant to conquer it not be conquered by it.
That is easier said than done. It can be done though. It will take every tool available to get the job done though. It will take prayer. It will take study of God’s word and application to our lives. It will take church too.
When it comes to church some people stay home and say the church does not need me. That is not true. The church needs every member who has a heart to learn and work. In fact we could use some more members who are ready to serve.
Even if the church did not need you, you need the church. I hear some of you now saying you can serve God as well at home as at church. I will not argue with you on that point but I will ask you a question. If you can serve God as well at home as you can in church, why did God tell you to assemble with the rest of us?
