The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
This week our country will celebrate its birth again. At such a time we are often consumed by fireworks and BBQ but it is also a time for solemn reflections of what our country means to us and the sacrifices made to achieve our freedom.
It should also be a time to thank God for what we have. I am the first to admit there are a lot of things about our country that I do not love. The Supreme Court recently added to that list. I am also quick to complain about our country.
That does not mean I do not appreciate the freedom we have. Do you realize that in much of the world we would not even have the freedom to meet together and worship the Son of God? It might even be dangerous to do so. In fact, it might even be illegal to print this little bulletin if the name of Jesus is mentioned. I could be thrown in jail. It could even cost some or all of us our lives. There are people today in jail and dead because they lack the freedom our country enjoys today.
This is not to say we need to ignore the great evils in our society. Instead of complaining though, we need to figure out what we can do to fix the evils. It can be done. It has been done before.
It will not be an easy task to change the course of a country but if we never start it will never be done. There are some simple things we can do though.
First and foremost we need to take a look at our own lives and families. Are we doing what we need to be doing? Are we living for the Lord?
We can also spread the word of truth. We need to be talking about God and his standards. Our country is in the midst of drought, not of water but of the word of God.
Finally we can hit our knees and pray. We need to be praying for awakening in our land. We can be praying for God to be merciful lest we become another Sodom. If you have not started doing these things, start today.
