Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
I was visiting church one Sunday some time ago to preach. While I was there I found some little tracts that they had available in the lobby. While most of them dealt with salvation there was one that was different. This was not about getting saved it was about serving the Lord after salvation.
The story went like this: This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have.
Unfortunately all too often this is the case when it comes to church. We all know there are things that need to be done but too few want to do them.
It is important to realize that God wants everybody to work in his church. While some would say there is nothing I can do the truth is that everybody can do something to help advance the Lord’s cause. It does not matter how old you are or how young you are you have something to offer the church.
For example, you can pray. In fact I hope you pray daily, as I do, for our church, one another and our country. I trust you are praying for those who are lost as well as those who are sick.
You can invite people to church. The best advertisement for anything is word of mouth. You have a mouth. Do you use it to invite people to church. Are you telling people about your church? Are you going into the highways and hedges and compelling them to come in?
No doubt some of you are but why not all? And these are just a few things that can be done. Let us not be like the story above waiting for somebody to do it when it is everybody’s job.
